Some of the most luscious foods taste more complicated than they really are, as proved
by this recipe from the Patrician Tea Room in Boca Raton, Fla.:

FRUITED SCONES

(1 dozen)
2 cups buttermilk baking mix
1/2 cup raisins
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
1/2 to 2/3 cup milk

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Mix together all ingredients, but add just enough of the milk
to make a soft dough. On a floured surface, roll dough into a 9-inch round. Brush with
milk and sugar. Cut into triangles. Bake 10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Serve with fresh fruit and preserves, whipped cream, honey or butter.
