Shoofly Pie

This pie is of Pennsylvania Dutch Tradition and is to be eaten as a breakfast cake if one
is to follow tradition, but my family likes it any time of day. It is sort of like pecan pie,
but without nuts and its gooey and wonderful. This makes 2 pies

Liquid:
1 egg-beaten
1 cup molasses
1 c hot water
1 tsp soda(dilute in water)
1tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves

Crumbs:
2 cup flour
2/3 cup crisco
2/3 cup sugar
mix together to make a fine meal

Line two pie pans with favorite pastry crust. Divide liquid and place half in each pastry
shell, drop crumbs in liquid until shell is filled. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 12
minutes, reduce temp to 350 and bake for 15-20 minutes. Test with a toothpick. When
baked, pie will be cakelike on top and gooey 1/2 inch high on the bottom.
